Got a notice I had not reported some 1099-misc. This was per diem expenses & wanted to know if this is taxed at a different rate & if so should I file amended return.($75 consultation) Had to pay $350 deposit & she said she would look into it & get back to me.(found out later: No, taxed the same) She charged $25 for a fax & $75 for a phone call to request time to respond & charged $210 to prepare amended return which showed same increase as IRS notice which notice stated I DID NOT need to file if I agreed with increase. Plus it stated I had made a payment I told her I had not. Threw that away. She also had me sign power of attorney ($25 to fax that)& said she would "get on the phone & see if I can get them to drop the $1000 penalty." This implied to me she would negotiate for me, but all she did was write a letter ($50) in my name requesting it be abated. Got the name of the company I worked for wrong so I threw that away too. My wife questioned why she had done amended return & she said I had asked her to. Wife said she should have advised it not needed, she changed her story & said she had to to see if tax was right. Bull all you need is the tax table. What I needed was to amend my state return (which the notice stated) & file my current state & fed which she did not do, even though this was stated in the contract I signed. Asked why other returns not included in estimate as shown in contract, she said she would be happy to do them but they were not included in the estimate. Told her no thanks. Result $460 spent for NOTHING.
